伙計,我希望谷歌翻譯作品出來這個時候。

Hello, all, welcome back. Today, I'm gonna give a mediocre review of a film called "Mood Indigo" (original title: "L'écume des jours" which literally translates to 'the foam of the days' which is meant to be like the remnants of daydreams) by Michel Gondry.

Wealthy, inventive bachelor Colin endeavors to find a cure for his lover Chloe after she's diagnosed with an unusual illness caused by a flower growing in her lungs.

Again, a very visually brilliant film but not the same way The Tree of Life was. Mood Indigo was more like the work of a genius kindergartener who went crazy on their arts and crafts time. It's whimsical, playful and spectacular when it comes to portraying the very basic plot of a man who has everything except love and so he goes to find it and when he does, things get a bit tragic. That's pretty much the plot and yes, it seems pretty dull and generic, but the way Gondry paints it with all this colour and creativity - the dream-like mise-en-scene that fits the original title so well, is what makes this film something to marvel at. It's beautiful. It's weird, so weird, but it works.

But, it has its downfalls. The one for me being the fact that it plays out like every single primary-school book that talks about deforestation. Gondry uses lack of colour and industrialisation as his main symbols to represent things going wrong. And to me, it seems a bit cliche. Of course, it was the obvious thing to do and I can't really think of anything better but he could've put a little more effort in.

In saying that, he did do it in a way that was obviously more creative and artful than a kid's book. The film starts off so fantastically and vibrantly that the slow fade into black and white does have an impact. You can immediately recognise that things are going wrong when the rat tries to clean the windows. It works well to show the plot and it's as visually pretty as the rest of the movie was. But still, textbook symbolism, imo.

Anyways, in the end, I did enjoy the movie. It was good. Audrey Tatou was in it. There was a lily in her lung, I love flowers. The use of flowers as both disease and medicine was interesting. I freaking love flowers, bro. Talking about flowers, if anybody every makes a bath for me that looks like this, I would die. I would keel over, violently vomit blood and just fall in love:

Anyways, I recommend this movie, it's a nice watch. Again, patience is a virtue, it's not the movie for those who like short stories or faster paces. As short as this film's plotline feels, it goes into it quite a bit so it's longer than you'd imagine. I give it a 7.5/10. Not like aceeeee, but it's pretty and nicely told.

Thanks for reading, bye!
